He says the stamp on the top tells you the carbon content, which is critical to blacksmiths and forgers, according to him. This stamp says "MC", and there is another one that looks like a double "G" with the second one facing the first one, like a mirror image. At least the one I am looking at has a number "2" above the double "G". They have the blue oxide finish common to steel that has been red-hot. Small rust stains here and there. Obviously never used.
