Description: I have here for sale a book entitled FIFTEEN YEARS IN INDIA; or, SKETCHES OF A SOLDIER'S LIFE Being an Attempt to Describe Persons and Things in Various Parts of Hindostan From the Journal of AN OFFICER IN HIS MAJESTY'S SERVICE [Robert Grenville Wallace] published by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown, London, in 1822. First edition. The author went to India at the beginning of 1805, and returned in 1819, and from his journals gives an amusing and fascinating account of life and customs in India in the early years of the nineteenth century. He served in Carnatic, Bengal, and Bombay. He took part in the invasion of "Kutch-booge, marched through Kattywar, and destroyed the fastnesses of the pirates in Okamundel".Tan leather boards with a gilt border. Five partially raised bands with gilt lettering and gilt decoration on the spine. Gilt lettering has worn away and there is wear to the leather along the hinges and at the top and bottom. Bookplates on the front endpaper and prelim. Foxing to endpapers and some pages.
