Even rarer in the original binding. A notable Georgian cookery and housekeeping reference work, particularly important as it is claimed to be the first cookery book to be arranged alphabetically.The author, Richard Dolby, included many new recipes in this volume which had never yet appeared in print, or seldom had; these recipes are noted in the work with an asterisks, recipes including Mexican almond milk, marinated calf's ears, cheese soup, chicken loaf, and more.This was a popular work, being reprinted and revised again by the author in 1832 and 1833.Richard Dolby was a cook at the Thatched-House Tavern on St. James's Street, London, a famed tavern which also produced another cookery book writer, Michael Willis.Two pages of adverts to the rear. CONDITION In the original cloth binding. Externally, cloth is rubbed and discoloured, with fading to the spine and head of the boards. Head of the joints are cracked, resulting in the cloth to be lifting. Minor bumping to the extremities. A little loss to the head and tail of the spine. Light marks to the boards and spine. A little loss to the spine label. Front hinge is strained. Bookseller's label and prior owner's ink inscription to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age-toned with scattered spots.
