Description: I purchased this unframed map at Eastern Market in Washington, D.C. in the summer of 2015. Originally the map would have been folded so there are original fold lines and the map has loss on the left side of the map although none of the map or reference materials printed on the right are effected and looking at two similar maps (one older, one newer) they all have the same corner so it must be specific to the printing. Also, the paper is quite thin. Otherwise, the background is cream in color and in good condition. The blue illustration of the river ways offer a nice contrast. I love the detail of the roundabouts and what we now use as park spaces laid out on the grid, spellings are unique to the time period, for instance the Potomac is referred to as "Potowmac," the letter "s" is replaced by the letter "f" as in "Congrefs Houfe" (aka the U.S. Capitol), and there is a draw bridge listed in Southeast D.C. The White House is referred to as the President's House. The map is marked by the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey and the Office Commissioner of Public Buildings. It is based on the map drawn by Pierre Charles L'Enfant. Map measures 31.5 inches (slightly less in the top left corner) by 21 inches Ships rolled in a tube via UPS Ground.
