Description: Unveiled by the American Museum of Natural History in NYC in 1905 (significantly ahead of Yale in 1931), this image is likely contemporary to that display. Built from bones of four dig sites in Como Bluff & Bone Cabin Quarry in Wyoming, supplemented w/ plaster casts from Yale’s collection and finished w/ a head that was likely a Camarasaurus, this was the first display attempted of a Brontosaurus / Apatosaurus. Stunning clarity & tonal silver gelatin contrast. 5.75 x 8” w/ chips left corners & creases to bottom right. None affect subject. Identified NYC press archive reverse.
