Description: Antique Payroll Ledgers.First book spans the dates of 1916 - March 1924. Second book spans April 1924 - March 1937.I see some of the same names in both books. Measure approximately 12" x 7 1/2"xBook 1 has 200 numbered pages. It starts with page 7. Writing in this book begins on page 8 and is written on through page 188. book 2 has 300 numbered pages. It starts on page 1. Pages are written on from page 1 through page 243.The front cover in book 2 has a stamp inside showing WM M Stauffer & Son, New Holland PA. Page one has JH Townsley & Son New Holland PA. (I didn't see anything identifying book 1 other than some of the names of the workers in book one are also in book 2)The pages throughout these books consist of week ending dates with names of workers, their rate per hour, number of hours worked and totals paid. Very interesting to page through. In the 1916 and other teen years, wages were $.22 up to $.27 1/2 per hour. In the 1920s some of the rates paid were $.65, $.55, $.45 per hour. Looks like the wages went down in the 1930s. They were $.30, $.40 / hour. Even the number of hours worked per week seems like it decreased. There was not time and a half for overtime back then!There are some additional papers that were included in book 2 when we purchased it. My personal favorite was the paper seen in picture 20. It shows amounts of supplies purchased and a bricklayers wage in 1942 of $1.10 per hour! His helper was paid $.75 per hour!So interesting to see how much time has changed! From the handwritten records, to the wages and seeing how things fluctuated with wages and amount of hours worked over the years depending on what was happening in our world at the time. Fun pieces of history here!!We buy most of our pieces at auctions, flea markets & yard sales so we may not know the history of the item. We are not antique dealers, collectors or experts.
