Description: This is an original wooden jointed Betty Boop doll from the 1930sIt was my mother’s doll and has been in storage for at least 50 years.Betty is 12” tall, has a composition head, wood segmented body, black curly molded hair and green painted high heels. As Betty is a 90 year old doll, she does shows signs of wear with paint cracking and flaking off on the head and the tips of her hair. The paint on her body still has good color , and appears in good shape with some crazing. The side seam shows signs of cracking on one side. Also, the end of one of her toes has chipped off.(see photos)This cartoon character from Max Fleischer "Dizzy Dishes" was created in 1930 by Myron Grim Natwich. This doll was designed by Joseph Kallus of Cameo. The Cameo Betty doll is marked with a heart shaped paper label "Betty Boop Des. & Copyright By Fleischer Studios."The first Betty Boop dolls debuted in 1931 as wooden jointed dolls dressed in painted-on black, green or red dresses. Only 1000 of these 17-inch dolls were made. In 1932 more dolls were released in the same three colors, but they were only 12 inches tall.
