Description: For your consideration is this gorgeous 1930s William WM Gilbert Laurel No 3 Vintage Mantel Clock with Chime. This antique clock features deeply carved oak with leaves, sunflowers & Egg & Dart molding, time & strike movement, arched glass door with fancy draped design, and large brass pendulum. This is a stunning example of early 20th century manufacturing and craftsmanship. The Gilbert Clock Company started its long history of clock making in December of 1828. It became one of America’s giants in the industry, spanning over 130 years. Originally known as Marsh, Gilbert and Company, it was founded by William Lewis Gilbert (1807-1890) and his brother-in-law George Marsh when they purchased a clock shop servicing the Farmington and Bristol, Connecticut area. The company was put into bankruptcy in 1932 when hit hard by the great depression. After two years, the company worked its way out of debt, and changed its name to the William L. Gilbert Clock Corporation. This 1930s William WM Gilbert Laurel No 3 Vintage Mantel Clock is in good vintage condition. This clock shows only minor signs of wear, which is consistent with age.
