Description: First Edition (stated), published in 1943, or specifically according to the code, K-S, on the copyright page of each volume, in October of 1943. The books are limp red leather, and were housed in a slipcase. The slipcase was coming apart with the stiff cardboard separating at the seams on most of the sides. I used bookbinding glue to reassemble the slipcase so that it is now quite sturdy, but the edges are worn, as they had been separated. The black paper covering the slipcase has flaked off in many spots, and the red title block is a bit soiled. So generally the slipcase is functional but not in great condition. The books, on the other hand, are in VERY GOOD CONDITION. The spines have clear spine gilt titling but have some scratching. The boards have moderate corner wear, light edge wear, and they are clean. Each book has the owner bookplate behind the front board and then the same owner's inked name and the year 1941 underneath on the first free endpaper.. It's not clear to me why the inked year is 1941 when the book was published in 1943... Vol. 1 has 196 very clean and solidly bound pages, and Vol 2 continues the pagination to 383 pages. The pages have gilt tops and rough fore edges. Each book has an attached red ribbon marker. There are no interior marks beyond the name/date on the first free endpapers, but there is a stain on the next two pages (blank endpaper and half title page) of Vol. 1 as something like a newspaper clipping was stored there.
