Description: Toungoo , Burma 1943 Dimensions: ~8” x 10.5” There appears to be water-caused rippling and foreign staining. Please review the photos to evaluated the maps condition for yourself prior to purchase. The nation of origin and occupant of the mapped location is unclear. The map is dated during the period of the Burma Campaign. While in English, it is unclear which nation’s military made this. From my research, the Burma Campaign appears to be a British lead campaign, with participation by multiple Allied Forces. The timeframe falls closely after the end of a successful "Operation Longcloth" albeit, that took place much further north than Toungoo. It is also around the same time period as the end of the First Arakan Campaign, which ended as an Allied failure. Eventually the Allies moved through Toungoo in 1945. After conducting research, I believe this map represents a Japanese occupied position and penned by English forces. The use of A/D appears to be Air Defense, or could be “Airdrome”. The coloring matches that within the legend so it appears to be original and intended. I am unable to find the meaning for the stamped “S”.The map is also labeled "Restricted" and can be reasonably surmised that it was used in some capacity of military operations.
