Description: Much prettier in hand. The photos do not do justice. Thickly lustrous, nicely struck, very few and light marks for MS66+, non-doctored. The most recent MS66+ APR's are $8,225 and $9,400 (click the fifth image) but that was when CU was merely $7,500 (sixth image). CU is now $12,500 as of 7/2/23. 🔵 CMQ = David Hall's version of a CAC sticker, which thus denotes superior eye appeal and technical quality. Hall is PCGS's founder and the greatest grading expert and coin dealer of all time. Both he and Greg Roberts, another superstar numismatist, must agree on any coin's CMQ approval. Billion-dollar companies make a buy/sell market in CMQ coins. CMQ places far more emphasis on eye appeal than CAC does. Picky CMQ approves merely a small minority of coins examined. ✅ Green CAC = choice, high-end, possibly under-graded. ✅ Fussy CAC has approved just 5% of all 1946 DDR halves certified by PCGS and NGC. Some tallied in the population reports (including CAC's) are resubmissions or crossovers of the same coins. Maximum mintage 60,000 based on contemporary die life. Thus, the true key to the set (sorry, 1921-D). Many PCGS MS66 Walkers are really dipped MS65's or even worse. But this original MS66+ actually grades at least MS66+ and could one day reside in an MS67 slab. Such Pop Top Walkers can bring GIGANTIC premiums at auction. Plate coin at PCGS's website. $12,500 PCGS Price Guide as of 7/2/23. The least marked 1946 DDR that we have seen to date, which is saying something given our sales of hundreds of these over the years.
