Description: Just received from Japan. First one I have seen for sale from a US based seller on ebay. This lovely Japanese Baseball Karuta set is from 1949 and has, I believe both 48 reading cards and 48 player cards (judging by the paper seals being still intact and stack size, I have not taken them apart to count or look). There are 22 HOF'ers in this setTadashi "Bozo" Wakabayashi. He was Hawaiian born and has 2 cardsShigeru Chiba 2 CardsMichio Nishizawa 2 CardsKaoru Betto 2 CardsFumio FujimuraFumio Fujimura and Kaoru Betto together cardHideo FujimotoTokuji IidaNoboru AotaVictor StarffinTakehiko BesshoJuzo SanadaTetsuharu KawakamiHiroshi OshitaMichinori TsubouchiMichio NishizawaKazuto TsuruokaMakoto Kozuru Also there is a rare appearance by Canadian born Eiishiro Yoshie The box features an illustration of Kaoru Betto (of The Big Lebowski fame). Each card is 2 1/16" x 2 15/16" To me this one is a gem to keep intact, like a 1950s unopened pack of Baseball Cards. I believe the value is in its uniqueness in its current untampered state. Thanks!
