Description: 1957-58 JCM 26 (JCM-26) 'Maruya B&W' Baseball Menko Card Stanley Hashimoto 橋本Toei Flyers ROOKIE Card Hawaii born These B&W Baseball Menko Cards were made in 1957-1958. This set is Catalogued as JCM 26 in the Japanese Baseball Card Catalog. Examples from this set are Scarce overall. They are ranked R3, meaning est. between 11-99 of ea. card known. Stanley Hashimoto 橋本 Hashimoto was born November 5, 1932 in Waipahu, Hawaii. He was an Oahu, Hawaii elementary school teacher when the Toei Flyers signed him as their first foreign player ever, a good seven years after Wally Yonamine integrated the post WWII Japanese game. He hit a poor .189/.231/.239 in 78 games in 1957 but the club returned him the next year. The move paid off, as Hashimoto batted .291/.330/.387 in 1958. He not only made the Pacific League All-Star team but he finished 6th in the PL in average (tops of any foreign player) and made the Best Nine as the loop's best overall first baseman. Hashimoto batted .281/.320/.363 in 1959, then to .213/.240/.256 in 1960. Moving to the Taiyo Whales in 1961, he batted .266/.331/.301 in 80 games. Overall, Stanley played 462 games in Nippon Pro Baseball and hit .261/.302/.333.
