Flying Disks. This is a diagram of Britain's secret "flying saucer" which made a successful first flight yesterday. The saucer, officially named the Hovercraft, is an oval disc of polished aluminum 30 feet long and 25 feet wide. It has been under trial on the Isle of Wight off England's south coast for several months. The Hovercraft weight two tons and is capable of a speed of 40 miles an hour. It is designed to skim along a few feet above the water on a cushion of air forced downwards from the machine itself. Its designers believe models of the contraption could be used for various types of commercial transportation.Photo measures 10 x 7.75inches. Photo is dated 6-8-1959.
