Description: Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Bassman head and tall 2x12 cabinet, freshly serviced and extremely clean cosmetically. This transitional Fender amp has a Silverface faceplate with "drip edge" aluminum trim, and is one of the earliest examples of this model, retaining the AB165 circuit and identical componentry to the Black Panel-era Fenders produced in the weeks prior to this Bassman. The perfect platform for players who use a variety of pedals, the Bassman delivers a robust and dynamic clean tone that offers both sparkle and muscle. Beyond around 5 on the Volume dial, the amp starts to push into smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive. The circuit is 100% original save for a couple power supply caps, and the Schumacher power and output transformers both date to the 42nd week of 1967, while the choke dates to the 40th week of the year. The CTS pots have visible date codes from the 40th week of '67, and the chassis stamp also dates to 1967. The preamp is untouched, and the circuit identical to a "Black Panel" Bassman, retaining the blue molded Ajax capacitors essential to the sweet, musical tonal color of Fender's golden age circuits. The power supply has a combination of original Mallory caps and a couple modern substitutions, and a modern three-prong power cable has been installed. There are three small silver plugs on the back of the chassis from unknown, previously reversed mods. The tube complement includes a pair of properly biased Sovtek 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes, along with original matching RCA-branded preamp tubes and a Realistic-brand phase inverter. The original tube chart is also present inside the head cabinet. The speaker cabinet is loaded with the original pair of Oxford 12T6 speakers. These 12" drivers have ceramic magnets, pristine black frames and dated stickers on the magnets from the 39th week of '67. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with turquoise stripe are intact and stunningly clean on both the head and speaker cabinet, with the "drip edge" aluminum trim framing the baffles. The stock corners, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and piggyback clip bars are all intact.
