Part of a long running series of commemoratives this one was struck at the Munich mint in 1971 to honor the 500th anniversary of the birth of Albrecht Dürer, one of Germany’s most famous artists. Albrecht Dürer was born in 1471 at Nuremberg. He gained fame across Europe in his twenties for his high-quality woodcut prints. His extensive body of work includes altarpieces, religious works, numerous portraits and self-portraits, and copper engravings. He died in his native city of Nuremberg in 1528 at the beginning of the Reformation. Weight: 11.21 Grams, 29 Millimeters, .625 Silver. Mintage: 7,800,000.
