Description: This listing is for the 1989 Upper Deck Anaheim Baseball Card Show Jay Buhner Baseball Card pictured. It is on the left hand side of the first two pictures (the regular issue card on the right hand of the first two pictures is not included). The card has no player position in the gray box on the front of the card and it is blank backed, but has "SAMPLE NOT FOR RESALE" stamped in blue ink on the back of the card. The card is in NM condition. I did a write-up on these cards on my site: https://rarebaseballcards.myfreesites.net/1988-1989-upper-deck-anaheim-show-promo-baseball-card-blank-back As background, in 1988, shortly after Upper Deck was formed, management met with the Major League Baseball Players Association in order obtain a license to produce baseball cards. Upper Deck was told by the MLBPA that they had to create prototype cards to show to the MLBPA and as a result, they produced the fairly well known Wally Joyner and DeWayne Buice Prototype cards. Those card were distributed at the July 1988 Atlantic City National Convention. However, what is not as well known is in 1988 Upper Deck also created a 25 card sample sheet / set to help promote its upcoming cards on the West Coast near its headquarters. These sample cards were distributed at a baseball card show in Anaheim, California during the weekend of November 26-27, 1988 and are known as the "Anaheim Show Samples". The cards were given out to dealers and collectors to promote the inaugural set for Upper Deck. These cards have the same pictures as the regular issue cards, but like many Upper Deck Proofs, the player's position is missing in the gray position box on the front of the card. (As an aside, Upper Deck also pictured proof cards with no player position in the gray box on its 1989 and 1990 pack boxes - also pictured). The Anaheim Show cards were also blank backed and some of the cards were stamped with "SAMPLE NOT FOR RESALE" on the back in either blue or black ink.All 25 cards were numbered between 206-250 from the regular 1989 set. The cards were largely give out as individual cards, but there were some sheets distributed as well. The uncut sheets are much harder to come by. I had been trying to collect this set for many years, but had only ever been able to come across 10 of the individual cards. The other 15 were nearly impossible to come by and really still are. I was able to find the other 15 cards though as part of a collection that I bought from a former Upper Deck Senior executive, which is where this card comes from. I've included a picture of the full 25 card set in uncut sheet format so that you can see all of the cards in the set as well as pictures of the 1989 and 1990 upper deck pack boxes so that you can see that they used these kind of proof cards with no player position on their boxes. The sheet and boxes are not part of this listing. Feel free to ask any questions.
