Description: 19th Century Fiji Islands Throwing Club, I Ula Tava Tava South Pacific Oceanic 19C Provenance Fiji Islands Throwing Club, I Ula Tava Tava South Pacific Oceanic 19th Century Provenance This is a rare and valuable Fiji Islands throwing club from the 19th century. It is made of a single piece of wood and has a beautiful brown color and gorgeous aged patina. The cylindrical shaft has incised geometrical designs (almost like a zig-zag snake design) on the handle leading to a heavy, fluted head; fine reddish brown patina. The throwing club, known as "i ula tavatava" in the Republic of Fiji Islands, was used as a weapon during battles and hunting. This authentic original antique will be a great addition to any collection of Pacific Islands and Oceania ethnographic antiques. Provenance: Nancy Sibray Collection in Somis, California, which adds to its authenticity and historical significance. She had a huge museum quality Oceanic collection, most of which have sold at major auction houses and to various museums. Condition: Excellent condition. Gorgeous aged patina. Nicks, cracks and scuffs throughout that are commensurate with age and use.
