Description: 22nd Mississippi Infantry Regiment Liberty Guards 3x5 Flag - Vintage 22nd Mississippi Infantry Regiment Liberty Guards 3x5 Flag - Vintage 22nd Mississippi Infantry Company E Battle Flag with Vintage Aged Finish The 22nd Mississippi Infantry was organized at Iuka during the summer of 1861. It was made up of companies that had so far been unable to get into a regiment for active duty totaling 38 officers and 597 enlisted men. Company E was formed at Liberty Mississippi in Amite County on April 27th, 1861, and mustered in for state service on April 29th. They were then mustered into the service of the Confederate Army on July 25th and sent to Iuka where they were attached to the 22nd Mississippi Infantry. They became known as the Liberty Guards since that is where most of the men were from. Their company battle flag was a 1st National style with thirteen stars and Liberty Guards April 27th, 1861 printed on the center white bar. The regiment fought in many of the major battles in the Western theatre including Shiloh, Baton Rouge, Iuka-Corinth, Steele Bayou, Fort Pemberton, Kennesaw Mountain, Peach Tree Creek, Big Shanty, Decatur, Columbia, Franklin, Nashville, Anthonys Hill, Sugar Creek, and Bentonville. About a month after Bentonville on April 26th, 1865 the 22nd Mississippi surrendered near Durham Station North Carolina along with the rest of the Army of Tennessee. There were only 93 men left fit for duty at the time of surrender. It is estimated that the 22nd Mississippi Infantry traveled a total of almost 5,000 miles by rail and on foot during the course of the war. This is a reproduction of the 22nd Mississippi Infantry flag and has a vintage/aged finish. It is designed to look like the original preserved flag appears today (not as it would have appeared in the 1860s). The actual dimensions are not exactly the same as the original flag. The artwork is visible on both sides, and the lettering reads correctly on one side only.
