These unofficial pages are very lightly folded in thirds as was the USPS custom at that time and includes both variations! Wishing to promote the growing hobby of collecting First Day of Issue covers the USPS created 8x10 posters to be placed in post offices and sent to stamp dealers and collectors. Each page contains a short description of the event being commemorated or the function of the stamp, along with technical information about the stamp, and an engraving of the stamp(s). The first "Poster" was for Scott # 1132 the 49-star flag stamp released on 7/4/1959. Thus began the hobby of attaching stamps to posters and having them First Day Cancelled, the Unofficial Souvenir Pages.By 1972 the Postal Service had noticed the interest in Stamp Poster with First Day Cancels and decided to begin a program of their own. Thus, USPS Official Souvenir Page Program, also known as American Commemorative Cancellations, was created in early 1972. They started with Scott #1455 the Family Planning Stamp on March 18, 1972. This series has now grown into the thousands. The color of the scans and photos is off. The actual pages are bright and vivid.
