Description: eBay’s AI Description This exquisite wine glass is a beautiful example of 18th century English glass-making. The goblet features a stunning ogee bowl and a stem that is handcrafted with blue and white twists. Made from high-quality lead glass, this piece has a capacity of 8 fluid ounces. Perfect for formal dinner parties or as a collectible item, this glass is an original and was made in the Heart of England Glass factory. The glass was hand-blown using period tools, giving it a unique and authentic appearance. Add this stunning piece to your collection or use it to impress your guests at your next formal event. My Description In 2014 we Commissioned “Georgian Gaffers” (Mark Taylor and David Hill) to make us a group of “Blue & White” colour twist goblets, with ogee bowls and conical feet. These were to be Reproductions of ca 1765 goblets - of the “type” we just sold at the Bonham’s auction 12/13/23, Lot 123. (estimated at 5,000 to 7,000 pounds.) The average glass was to be about 7 ½ inches tall and hold up to 8 ounces. We were not trying to “fool” anybody with these reproductions; we were trying to honor the period designs and have “tableware” we could use without fear of economic loss if someone (my mother!) slammed the glass down and broke it. “Georgian Gaffers” who now name their business “Heart of England Glass” and are world famous for making reproduction glass for movies and TV (check their website) “specialize in making high quality reproductions of ancient Roman, Medieval and Eighteenth Century glass vessels for collectors, museums and the film industry.” They were on that path when we met them in 2014 and they have run with it. Now that we have reached our “golden years” [I am 87 Nancy is 81], we are downsizing - viz the sale at Bonham’s, and we need to find new homes for our tiny treasures. They are all accurate representations of circa 1765 Ogee Goblets, with assorted blue and white colour twist stems. This particular glass, our # 219, has a 3 1/4” diameter bowl, is 7 5/8” tall, and has a 3 5/16” diameter foot. It is signed and dated, Mark Taylor 2014, in the pontil. Originals sell for thousands of pounds and FEEL the same in the hand as these. And have the same "mouth feel” and “nose”. I know. I have had fine merlot in both Mark Taylor’s glass and in originals! Picture #6 is from the “Heart of England Glass” website. Picture # 7 above is a screen shot of an antique glass which just sold for £5,200 pounds! My listed price is for ONE glasses (our Number 219), and I will ship it FREE (within the US), with tracking! Thank you for reading this and thank you for your help. We are selling our STUFF (a) to rescue my executor and my wife from having to deal with it if I die before I get it all sold. [I am now 87]and (b) in the hope of finding appreciative homes for "our little treasures”.But (c) mostly because we are using all the proceeds from the eBay sales to provide mortgage support to four “homeowners” who used to work for us, before we retired, and who have had problems finding other work because of covid. So, if you enjoy 18th C English Drinking Glasses, and want to use “them” without risking a small fortune. (a) buy one (or more) of these perfect reproductions to enjoy now in your home, and (b) help my wife and I “downsize” and (c) help BD, BR, DG and LT stay in their homes. Happy New Year!
