Description: This is such an elaborate piece! I believe it was purchased in Italy in the early part of the 1900's. The family that I purchased it from had a family history of traveling there during that time period. Inside the frame is a beautifully detailed painting on porcelain in the Greek style. It is kind of an Ancient Greek genre scene with three women pulling a child in a cart. The miniature neoclassical style painting is signed Angelica Kauffman. I am certain it is hand painted, though a reproduction of the original work by Angelica Kauffman. The little miniature on porcelain is framed in one of the most elaborate frames that I have ever seen!. It is made of finely cast brass. In keeping with the neoclassical theme, it is decorated with intricate floral details along the outer edge and a band of Greek key motif inside of that. There is an inner circle inside the frame that is set with cabochon type jewels alternating with very detailed cast portraits of Zeus. The back side of the frame is embossed with the word registrado. The painting when removed from the frame is embossed on the back with what I believe is the mark for Hutschenreuther. There is also a number embossed on the back that I think reads 419 70. I will include a photo of the back of the porcelain plaque with this listing so that you can see how it is marked. The overall diameter is 7 1/8". the diameter of the painting is approximately 3" This is truly an exceptional little item!
