Description: Antique Nepali Gold Thread CenserChinthe LeogryphMythic Guardian Lion CenserOrigin: Nepal, Circa: 1950s’H 3.5 in (9cm), W 3.75 in (9.5cm), D 2 in (5cm)Overall very good condition! With the classic hieratic features of a Leogryph, the gem-filled Chinthe lion censer here appears charming and ferocious. It has a large head embedded with rows of red coral, a fan-like mane sectioned into three rows of blue turquoises, a densely wired round snout with coiled thread nostrils, and powerful jaws baring white fangs in a devouring mien. His brows are deeply furrowed above two shell-inlay bulging eyes, on his neck a large collar set with three turquoise stones, with red coral beads tightly interlaced throughout the figure, and on his sides a series of intricate wires woven into a pair of wings, which fold back toward the Chinthe's rhythmic curling fan tails with a blue turquoise on the right. Despite its age, it is missing only a turquoise inlay on its left. The spirited incense burner has an aged patina that enhances the intricate jewel-like quality of the piece.*Authenticity Guaranteed.
