Description: Dimensions are: Tip of blade to top of handle: 35 1/4"Blade Length: 29 3/4 This sword was passed down from my family. I haven't been able to find any manufacture marks on the sword but in my research it may have been made by G.W. Sanders & Co. Based on 1860 officers sword, SV was the sister organization to the G.A.R.From online research, it is believed to have been carried by members of the Sons of Veterans (SV) Clamshell Guard during the Civil War (1861-65). The sword's handle is adorned with the Guard's emblem and it is an original piece from the United States. The sword is unmodified and is in good condition for its age. Please see pictures as it could use some restoration especially having the wire braiding put back around the wood handle. Its year of manufacture is between 1890-1910. This sword is perfect for those interested in the history of the Civil War and militaria.
