Description: This is an unused tile from pre-1900: it was made by the U.S. Encaustic Tile Company in Indianapolis. It is in their high relief style with a very raised, three dimensional design of a star-like flower with eight points and a raised circular center. It has a rich brown glaze that allows the design to show through, lighter at high points. It lies flat with no warping. This has never been used; the back is clean and clear as shown, and there are no chips or cracks on the front. The only possible fault is a chip along one side at the bottom, as shown in the closeup edge photos. This will not show when the tile is used or displayed. The design will blend well with other designs of this era for use as a tile installation, or display it by itself!
