This milkweed likes conditions on the slightly more arid side and like quick draining sandy soils. Seed sources for these plants are from around the Oklahoma City area. It is an host plant for monarch and queen caterpillars, and the blooms are an excellent nectar resource for native bees like bumblebees, longhorn bees, leaf cutter bees, mining bees, and carpenter bees (what I’ve seen on them), although they don’t provide pollen. Seeds require at least 30 days of cold moist stratification.
