Description: Black on Black on Black! African Maasai Warrior TrioOwning a tribal collectible isn't just owning an item that was made in Africa, it's owning a handmade piece of Culture and History! Give your brave warrior a gift that he won't forget! This Maasai warrior set is a "black on black on black" TRIO that includes a "rungu" (club or thorwing stick) made from African blackwood tree, with black beading, black cow's tail flyswatter and a black hand-carved wood spear made from olive tree. ITEM DETAILS 1. "Rungu" is Swahili for club or throwing stick. A rungu is used by a warrior in the wild for protection against attack. In Maasai culture, the rungu is an important emblem of warrior status for young males. A special one is held by the speaker (Chief Ole Kipas, Enkereri Village in photo) at important tribal gatherings. This one of a kind rungu is made from the African blackwood tree and is longer than most at 22 inches. Solid end knob approximately 8 to 9 inches around. 2. Maasai Fly Swatter is utilized to swat large Tsetse flies and other annoying insects throughout Africa. While on safari in the Serengeti I found these to be very helpful. Tsetse flies are extremely large and have a biting sting. I experienced this first hand. This collectible and useful tool (especially if you have big bugs where you live) was made by the Maasai in the village of Enkereri, Kenya in the Masai Mara. Made with actual extra thick cow's tail hair and a wooden beaded handle. Approximately 28" long from top of handle to longest hair. Handle is 7 inches long and 2.5 inches around. 3. Wooden spear is made from olive tree wood (featured tree in photo) and hand carved, then beaded by one of the "mamas" of the village. 22 inches long and 2 to 3 inches wide at the center of the spear. The wood color of this particular piece is very dark compared to most. Your purchase of this item(s) helps remote tribal villages with the basic necessities of life that most of us take for granted. All products from this shop are purchased directly from Maasai villages that I assist. It is my goal to help these villages with generating sustainable income to rise from poverty, educate their children, feed their families and have a better life. FACT: the average tuition to send a Maasai child to public school in the Masai Mara is only $30 a year. Yet many families cannot afford to send their children to school.
