Description: Here is an extremely rare, beautiful vintage 100 years old print painting, Antecedent of Vishma’s birth by B. P. Banerjee (Bamapada Banerjee). The painting depicts the character of Devayani, daughter of Shukrachaya and wife of Yayati who saves her from well in Hindu Mythology. She gives birth to two sons Yadu and Turvasu. Yadugave rise to Yadu vamsha, and one of his descendants is Krishna. The print has very fine rised artwork in characters outfits and golden jewelry, amazingly done, one of the kind. Banerjee; Bamapada Banerjee (1851–1932) received his initial training in painting at the Calcutta Art School but, disillusioned with its pedagogy, he left and took private lessons with Pramathalal Mitra. Subsequently, he worked as an apprentice to the German painter Karl Becker who was then living in Calcutta. Banerjee's popularity rested on his paintings that frequently illustrated Hindu mythology. He was deeply influenced by the genres of European history painting. Though a junior contemporary of Ravi Varma, the most influential artist of the time, Bamapada evolved an individual style and dominated the popular taste for decades through reproductions of his works, most of which were printed in Germany.
