Gorgeous Victorian GWTW Red Satin Beaded Drape table lamp that has been highly sought after for over 100 years. The display quality is off the charts & it will bring beauty to any room where it is featured. These have sold for over $1000 & some much higher over the years but not many come up on eBay. There have only been 7-8 like our model (with handles) in over 20 years of eBay records. The Pittsburgh Lamp Brass & Glass Co (PLBG) was known as a quality lamp maker in its time & this model is one of their most popular productions among modern collectors. They made a few varieties of lamps with the Satin Red globes, this one is commonly known as the Beaded Drape for its globe designs. A few other makers interchanged this style of globe on lamps, but on models without handles. PLBG also made the Beaded Drape in a light blue & green, but they were not nearly as lovely as the red albeit more rare. This has the "SUCCESS" stamp on the wick riser knob which was used on PLBG Company lamps. The brass font was modified to electrify the lamp & it has no bottom, but does have an original fuel cap. The upper globe is roughly 10.5" wide & the lower globe is 9" High but a different shape of course. The lamp is in excellent, but not in mint condition. It would have been an oil lamp originally, but was converted to electric with bulbs lighting each globe. The glass globes are very nice with very minor wear as shown in pictures & video. They are better than 85-90% of globes we have seen & sold from the era & we have sold a lot of them. The color is great & there is just a slight color miss in one spot (3/8" circle shown in pictures) but it does not effect the items appeal. There are some minor flea bites on lower edge of upper globe and a few light scuffs to surface finish of globes, but overall they are still really sharp. The metal portions do have some tarnish & wear as shown in pictures but are solid. We did not take apart the lower section of the lamp as it is solidly assembled & we did not wish to risk damaging the item unnecessarily. The upper font & burner are connected to the lower base by a single threaded rod with a nut hold (common for electrified lamps of this type). This has an approx: 6 foot, 2 prong vintage cord (c:1940-60) that is solid as well. The top lamp socket is a standard wide mouth bulb, the lower is a smaller bulb & accessed by unscrewing the nut on bottom of the lamp and separating font from the base. This is not difficult, but should be done with care to avoid damaging item. We always place delicate lamps on a thin pillow, soft blanket or other soft surface when working with them. We will not ship with upper light bulb, but will leave the smaller bulb inside lower chamber as it should be protected enough for shipping. We have priced this below some other sales in recent years & some that are currently listed elsewhere above $1,000. Please review all pictures & use zoom feature if needed. Let is know if you have any questions before buying. For shipping, we will wrap the upper globe carefully & apart from the lower portion of lamp, likely in its own box within a larger box. We pack our lamps individually as we go until we feel we have exhausted all means to insure their safety in shipping. We will send buyer photos of the packing as done and completed. And, while we test our lamps and chandeliers when we buy them, we do not fully take them apart to examine them if they are already working. This lamp came from a very selective antique lighting collector specializing in some of the best & rarest lighting items we have seen. We often take from 30-90 minutes packing more delicate & odd sized items to make sure your treasure is protected. We also photograph most items above $100 while packing in case a shipper were to ever damage an item (only 1 time in over 2,000 US shipped sales). For this reason, if an item is ever damaged, it will be the Buyer's responsibility to file a claim with the shipping service and we can provide photos from packing to assist Buyers. The process is not difficult, but the timing of such does not allow adequate time for the item to be returned to us and then for us to proceed with a claim (chain of custody questions can arise as well on returned items due to double shipping and handling so it is just easier for Buyers). So again, as noted in listing, we do not offer returns. Of course, there is free local pick up and we can meet to assist if you are near Indianapolis or driving through. We do this often. Signature confirmation is required if your item is above $100 unless you request otherwise so please plan accordingly. Items without signature confirmation that are delivered to a a location (such as a porch or lobby) but goes missing (lost or stolen) are not covered by carriers even if insured. FedEx & Others are beginning to require signature on items above $500-$700. Also, we have discounts with FedEx & eBay on shipping which do not always show up in eBay estimates on shipping. We try to refund what we can when there is a notable difference, but we do not know until we actually process the shipping order.
