Description: Black Rose Fluorite 2 Lbs. 6oz Fluorescent Natural Black Cube Fluorite Pakistan Locality: Baluchistan Pakistan Weight: approx. 2 Lbs. 6oz ( 1086 Kg) Measures: 5.53'' x 5.50''x 4.50'x 3'' A very RARE Large Black Rose Fluorescent Cube Fluorite specimen sourced from Pakistan. An outstanding example of a Black Rose Fluorite specimen that has a semi-transluscent black coloring and is completely covered with perfectly formed inter pennetrant twinned cube clusters. With cubes of various sizes, the largest 2 cubes are roughly 1.38'' - 1.43'' or (35.12mm).There is very minimal damage, just a couple tiny unnoticeable nicks and a couple cleaved corners on smaller cubes. Great condition considering the size of this specimen. The contrasting shapes and fluorescent colors of this crystal group, make this piece a very attractive three dimensional specimen. Black Rose Fluorite is a captivating mineral renowned for its deep and mysterious black crystal formation that invokes the mystique of a black rose. The combination of it's pure black coloring and deep red "rose" fluorescence, suggests the symbolism, that exudes the fascination and allure of this magical Fluorite. However, this stone's true wonder is ultimately revealed under Longwave Ultra Violet light (LW UV 365nm). This Black Rose Fluorite bursts into life remitting a vivid display of blue, pink, purple and deep red luminescence. Black Fluorite is one of the rarest colors to find and why it is so highly sought after. ~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~·~· Note: Be aware that being able to view fluorescent minerals requires an ultraviolet (UV) lamp. A LW UV 365nm was used for this specimen. A black light is not a UV light and in most cases fluorescent minerals will not fluoresce with a black light. What makes minerals fluorescent? Ultraviolet light is a form of electromagnetic radiation. Fluorescence occurs when electrons in certain atoms of a crystallized mineral absorb the radiated energy from a UV light (Photons). The incoming photons bump the electrons into higher energy states, and they respond to the ultraviolet light. The remaining light energy is out of balance and remitted and can be seen as a visible color. The reason for the fluorescent remitted colors is due to impurities in the mineral, or activators; which become part of the mineral?s chemistry by taking the place of atoms in the host mineral. A majority of activators are atoms of certain metal elements that cause the resulting fluorescence in a mineral, Manganese being the most common activator. The level of fluorescence depends on the percentage of the impurities in relationship to the host atoms. Too much/little, results in low or no fluorescent response. Side Note: Fluorite, is also known as Fluorspar, is named for its fluorescence under ultraviolet (LW UV 365nm) and cathode-ray irradiation. Rare-earth elements, transition metal elements ( such as Chromium, Manganese, Iron, and Zinc) and alkaline elements (Sodium or Potassium) aka impurities, can often take the place of atoms in Fluorite basically occupying the crystal lattice structure of Fluorite. Since pure Fluorite is colorless, the existence and specific levels of these impurities determine the color of Fluorite in natural light, but also lead to the fluorescent color and phosphorescence it remits.
