We retained the same blade profile everyone loves and added a couple of new features. There is a choil to protect your fingers from sliding up onto the blade. We also extended the handle 0.5 and made it more symmetrical. This allows a more comfortable grip with or without gloves for all day working in the field without creating a hotspot in the hand. Still compact enough to carry in a front cross-draw sheath just like the G3 family of tools. This is a great option for a knife needed to covertly carry, yet be comfortable for extended periods of work. Built to last for years through everyday use and available in over 200 buildable combinations, this knife has a 3 inch cutting edge and is 7.25 inches overall. The knife comes standard with our G3 Series right-hand horizontal leather sheath for front cross-draw carry. I’ve always heard good things, but as someone who leans toward softer budget steels or tougher tool steels, I’ve never been in a hurry to try it. This stuff is nice, though. This knife takes a long time to get dull and doesn’t seem to chip easily at all. We spent the better part of an afternoon hitting stumps and logs with the Guardian 3 and when I took it home it still cut a clean line through paper without stropping. It could just be Bradford’s heat treatment. I know their edge geometry and overall ability to craft a good blade probably has a lot to do with it, so maybe it would be safer to say this is an example of good steel in the hands of a good craftsman. Most of these have a working hardness of around 60 – 62 HRC. I know the temptation is to assume that the most expensive versions are the best, but they’ll all perform roughly the same. You should mostly feel a difference in the way each steel keeps an edge, especially when you need to sharpen them.
