There is a 1/4" loss from the head of the backstrip and there is a thin loss from the foot. The underlying boards are peeking through at the corners (more so at the top fore-edge of the front cover). A slip of paper with the key to the Deseret Alphabet has been mounted to the front free endpaper. Internally clean and bright. Very good. The first portion of the Book of Mormon printed in the Deseret Alphabet.The Deseret Alphabet was introduced in 1854 and was created by Parley P. Pratt, Heber C. Kimball and George D. Watt. Made up of thirty-eight characters to correlate with basic sounds in the English language. The creation of the language is one the more unusual ideas of Brigham Young, and never was embraced in the way he thought it would be.
