The tunic has King's crown Royal Marine gilt buttons, bullion embroidered Globe and Laurel collar badges, gold lace edging to the cuffs, bullion cord shoulder straps. Stamped to the interior "Inspected 8.3.39". Sewn onto the interior of the collar is a paper label giving sizes and named to "Sgt Parsons HMS Exeter". Seargeant A.W.C. Parsons R.M. appears on the crew list for HMS Exeter during the Battle of the River Plate when the Light Cruisers HMS Ajax and HMS Achilles and the Heavy Cruiser HMS Exeter fought the German "Pocket Battleship" the Graf Spee. Very nicely hand tailored. The tunic is in excellent condition throughout, save for some very small mothing holes at the hem. During the Battle of the River Plate, 15 Marines lost their lives, mostly manning turrets. HMS Exeter 10 Marines killed, HMS Ajax 5 Marines killed. Sine the war started, a German battleship, the Graf Spee, had been roaming the South Atlantic sinking unarmed British merchant ships. She was being hunted by several British hunting groups and was found by the three British cruisers on 13 December 1939, and then began the Battle of the River Plate. The main armament of the Exeter was six 8-inch guns, and that of the Ajax and Achilles was eight 6-inch guns. The Graf Spee had six 11-inch guns and eight 6-inch guns.We sip worldwide.
