Description: This beautiful Zuni or Navajo petit point turquoise cluster Manta pin is c1950's (possibly earlier). There are no stamps or markings which is typical for the period. The stones are beautiful -- near perfect and appear to be Sleeping Beauty and set in saw-tooth bezels. It has loops to be worn as a pendant but it is best suited as a pin. It is fairly large -- approximately 4" x 2" and weighs approximately 26.2 grams. We have not cleaned it as the antiquing and patina is fairly heavy and part of its beauty. "Manta" pins were worn at the shoulder to fasten a woman's shawl, rug dress or blouse. They are now collectors' items and somewhat difficult to find. The workmanship on this manta pin is quite special. This piece was purchased for our gallery in 1993 and has been in our inventory/vault, not worn since then. It was a vintage piece at the time of our purchase and is in excellent condition. Collector's piece. Serious offers only, please. Please follow our store for more contemporary and traditional Native American pieces from a variety of artists and tribal affiliations (Navajo, Zuni, Hopi, Santo Domingo, Taos, Isleta, Washoe, Kiowa, Apache, Cherokee and more).
