Description: This is an oil on board of a rocky coast by American artist Charles Gordon Harris. Harris was from Rhode Island, so this is probably a painting of its coast. It is signed “C Gordon Harris” in the lower right corner. The image is 11 ¾” x 9 ¾” in a 16” x 14” frame. Harris was born in 1891 in Rhode Island. He studied at the Rhode Island School of Design under artists Cyrus Farnum, Stacy Tolman, and George A. Hays. He was a lifelong resident of Rhode Island where he taught and supported local artists. He was a member of the Providence Art Club, the Providence Watercolor Club, and the South County Art Association. His works are impressionistic, and they have a soft, colorful quality to them.
