Zisha is rich in iron, and a series of chemical reactions will occur during firing. The surface of the pot can be in contact with the air, so an oxidation reaction will occur, and the iron will be oxidized to ferric oxide, which appears red; while the inner layer of the pot cannot be in contact with oxygen, and during the firing process, the iron-containing components inside can only be reduced to black iron, so it becomes gray-black. Reduction firing, in simple terms, when the temperature in the kiln reaches a certain level, the oxygen in the kiln is reduced, making it oxygen-deficient, and the fire will continue to burn the remaining oxygen. Due to the accumulation of charcoal ash residues produced during firing, it cannot be fully oxidized and burned locally to form a reducing atmosphere, causing local firing temperature differences and pressure differences in the kiln when the blank is in direct contact with charcoal and flames. In this mixed atmosphere, ferric oxide is reduced to ferric oxide, which can change the product from purple-red to purple-black.
