According to legend, he ruled in the mythological Golden Age by overthrowing his father in the chain of universal sovereignty, depriving him of the power to produce, and was dethroned by Zeus, one of his sons, and imprisoned in Tartaros. Kronos is depicted with a curved knife, sickle or scythe in his hand, which he used to deprive his father of manhood. In Athens, Kronia festivals where the harvest was celebrated in honor of Kronos were held in Hekatombaion, the 12th month of the Attica region.
