This book was the first complete translation of Sitte's landmark book, originally published in 1889 and the catalyst for a transformation of city planning. It was the first book since Alberti's in the fifteenth century to present systematically the artistic aspects of building cities. Camillo Sitte (1843-1903) was an Austrian architect, art historian, teacher, and practicing artist.
