Description: Civil War Model 1852 USN Naval Officers Sword with Sharkskin Scabbard. The ricasso is marked "F. Horster" over "Solingen". The grip and pommel will move a little if you force them, the guard is loose. The sharkskin grip is 50% complete and the twisted wire is 100% complete. The etched blade has a "U.S.N." in a ribbon design and another "U.S.N." on a flag on the reverse side, there are also anchors, an eagle standing on a cannon and other designs. The blade is unsharpened (except for the last 2 1/2" of the tip), some nicks, age spots scattered throughout, and there is a bend/curl on the last 1/4" of the tip. Leather washer is missing. The sharkskin scabbard is solid with only a little minor surface loss at the seam, and the throat piece is engraved with "-G.A. Pfeltz-" over "-USN-". Length of the blade measures 29" (1 1/16" wide x 5/16" thick), length of the sword is 34 3/8", and in the scabbard it is 34 7/8".
