Hand signed on reverse by the artist: "killerwhale, by Artie George, Canada" Coast Salish refers a group of ethnically and linguistically related Indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest Coast, living in British Columbia, Canada and the U.S. states of Washington and Oregon. Artie George, great nephew of Chief Dan George, is a Coast Salish woodcarver. Born in North Vancouver in 1970, he is from the Tsleil-Waututh Nation (Burrard Band). Artie began carving at the age of 13 and is mainly self-taught. His art is in collections around the world, including the Smithsonian Native American Museum in Washington D.C.
