In 1909 Ernst Krantz graduated from high school in Posen and went to Berlin. There he began studying architecture at the Technical University of Berlin. A year later he attended Lovis Corinth's private painting school and became his master student.After a first successful collective exhibition in the State Kaiser Friedrich Museum in Posen and participation in an exhibition of the Free Secession in Berlin, educational trips to Munich and Paris followed.During World War I he was a lieutenant in a machine gun company and was awarded the Iron Cross. After the end of the war, Ernst Krantz resumed his artistic activities. He became a member of the November Group and took part in their exhibitions.
