Our price for this photo poster is $149 We are delighted to offer this rarely seen Cuban poster that reproduces a 1971 photo of a massive rally in Havana's Plaza de la Revolucion, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the island-wide literacy campaign that brought worldwide attention to the Cuban revolution. In April 1961, 27 months after the revolution triumphed, the Fidel Castro-led government embarked on a campaign to abolish literacy on the island. The government dubbed 1961 "The Year of Education" and dispatched "literacy brigades" into the countryside to train new teachers, build schools and teach the illiterate to read and write. The United Nations hailed the campaign as a resounding success. The photo on this poster was taken in 1971 by one of the most prominent photographers of the Cuban revolution, JORGE VALIENTE (1936-2019), who also founded the Cuban newspaper Granma. This glossy poster, which measures approximately 20 by 13.5 inches (51 by 34 cm), was released by Cuba's cultural ministry as part of a portfolio that reproduced some of the most famous photos of the Cuban revolution. A short biography of JORGE VALIENTE was printed on the back of the poster. The poster is undated, but we believe it was printed in the past decade.Overall condition of this poster is good.
