Description: Presented is a fantastic antique Austrian bronze boudoir or bedside table lamp, dating to the early 1900s or very late 1800s. The bronze is beautifully cast in the form of two elephants beneath a palm tree, exceptionally detailed and well done, reminiscent of the work of Austrian sculptor Franz Bergmann, possibly his work. The elephants stand on a naturalistic base, which has a little well in the front perfect for the overnight storage of jewelry, glasses, or other small odds and ends. The palm tree that forms the top casts lovely shade, and with two lightbulb sockets, each with their own pull cord, this lamp is not just an attractive piece of décor but very versatile. This lamp is in great overall condition. The bronze itself has no breaks or repairs, and the patina is in great shape. The lamp does work, but the cord is quite old and we recommend having it rewired, which is an easy update to make. The elephants are missing three out of four tusks, and the remaining tusk has a chip, but a little wood painted white and glued in place could easily fix this. Please view all photos carefully as they are part of the description. The lamp is signed “Made in Austria” on one side of the base. The lamp stands about 20 inches tall and measures about 12 by 10 inches LxW. The base measures about 10 3/4 (including extended elephant trunk) by 8 inches. The lamp weighs about 12 pounds 15 ounces, or 5.87 kilograms. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
