Description: This is a whimsical and well done Fine Antique Dutch Old Master Smoking Genre Oil Painting on canvas, depicting a raucous village scene of several villagers, men and women, eating shellfish, drinking alcohol, and smoking from clay pipes. In the background, several children and farm animals can be seen, and in the foreground, a boy and dog are visible. This piece does not appear to be signed, but perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? A handwritten dedication on the verso reads: "Presented by Mr. John Rogers to Wm Scarisbrook Decr 1851." This piece was likely a souvenir acquired in the Netherlands by an English tourist, that was given to a friend or family member. This painting likely dates to the early - mid 19th century. Approximately 19 1/2 x 23 1/2 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 13 3/4 x 18 inches. Good condition for well over a century of age, with some light craquelure, a few small tears to the canvas, scuffing, and edge wear throughout (please see photos.) Acquired from an old estate in Los Angeles County, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Please check out my other listings for more wonderful and unique artworks!
