The Cat's Meow Club mascot, Casper, sits in an upper "hay door" supervising the action.According to Cat's Meow Collector's Club catalog: "In the 1880's, Akron, Ohio, was known for its production of matches, sewer pipe, farm machinery, strawboard, and cereals. Cereal was the largest industry, though, and Ferdinand Schumacher owned the greatest oatmeal-producing mills in town. Ferdinand built this German Mill beside a railroad siding on Summit Street in 1872 and rebuilt it after a fire in 1886. In 1907, after years of great change in the cereal industry, the Akron Mills were reorganized under the familiar Quaker Oats Company name. Cereal survived in Akron until 1971 when the Quaker Oats Company left Akron. But by 1987, the Mills were given a new life. Mr. Schumacher's mill is now part of a bustling shopping and dining complex.
