Words such as scuffs, hairlines, needle/ fingernail drags, sleeve rubs/scuffs and other similar terms are used as descriptive forms of surface scratches that likely will not render a record as defective. Scratches that are deep and can be felt will be described as such. As a mechanical device all records exhibit some level of surface noise most of which is covered by musical play. All but the most pristine records will have surface noise between tracks and in dead wax.
