Description: Special premiere program for the Hollywood Premiere of the movie Grand Hotel at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on April 29, 1932. This was a very lavish and huge premiere as the MGM publicity machine pulled out all the stops and a large A-List of stars attended the premiere. Conrad Nagel was master of ceremonies and a prop hotel reception desk was set up outside of the theatre with a register that all of the stars had to sign as they arrived. This looks to be a special VIP program that may have only been given to the stars or special guests. I have only seen one other of these and it had a black cover. It has been confirmed that the lineup in this program matches the special prelude and prologue that was only featured on the special night of the premiere. Grand Hotel is a 1932 American pre-Code drama film directed by Edmund Goulding and produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The screenplay by William A. Drake is based on the 1930 play of the same title by Drake, who had adapted it from the 1929 novel Menschen im Hotel by Vicki Baum. To date, it is the only film to have won the Academy Award for Best Picture without being nominated in any other category. The film included a large list of stars including Greta Garbo, John Barrymore, Joan Crawford, Wallace Beery, Lionel Barrymore, Lewis Stone and Jean Hersholt to name a few. The program has a cloth-bound hardcover and a snap to open and close. It is 8x10 inches and in very good condition.
