Description: Grateful Dead : Europe '72 : The Complete Recordings : Show # 12 ( of # 22 ) : May 4, 1972 ( 5/4/72 : 5/4/1972 ) : Olympia Theatre - Paris, France ( FRA ) : 4 CD : 2011 (1972/2011) Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. / Rhino ( GDP / Rhino ) - GRA2-6023 ( 12 ) : Europe '72 ! - Night # 2 ! ... at the Olympia ! - in Paris !! The Legendary !!! ' Mid-Tour ' Europe '72 Grateful Dead performance at the Olympia Theatre !! in Paris France !!! ... on May 4th, 1972 ( 5/4/72 ) !!!! Grateful Dead Fans who Love & even Live-for ! that Good Ol' Grateful Dead sound ... and at its Absolute-Finest ! Offered here proudly is the Monumental ! ' Mid-Tour ' ( 12th ! ) Show from the Grateful Dead Europe '72 Tour on May 4, 1972 ( 5/4/72 ) at the Rock & Roll ' Legendary ' Olympia Theatre in Paris, France !!! And as you might well expect - considering the time & era of Grateful Dead Music we are talking about here ... the Band is Red-Hot ! right out of the gate early ! for this Monumental " Europe '72 " Tour ! ... and, as some may argue -- even More-So ! as this Legendary Tour of Europe was in Mid-Swing !! Seven ( 7 ) Shows were played at the Academy of Music in New York City in Late-March ( 3/21-28/72 ), and if you have heard pieces, parts or all of that magnificent run - then you already know how " effective " that NYC run was as the ideal " Tour Warm-Up " for this Big-Time Europe '72 stretch that was right around the corner. Europe '72 kicked off at Wembley Empire Pool in London, England on 4/7/72, as part of a two-night stand. The 2nd tour-stop also took place in England ( Newcastle upon Tyne ) at the City Hall ! Then onto Copenhagen, Denmark ( for the 1st stop ! ) at the Tivoli Concert Hall. Then at Stakladen at Aarhus University in Aarhus, Denmark. Then " back to " the Tivoli Concert Hall in Copenhagen, Denmark ( again ! ). Three Denmark Shows ! And from here ... there were 17 More Shows ( 22 in Total ) stretching from Bremen ( Germany ), to Dusseldorf ( W. Germany ), to Frankfurt ( 100 Year Hall ! ), to Hamburg -- and then ... to the Olympia Theatre in Paris France - for 2-Shows ! on 5/3/72 & 5/4/72 ... with the Entire ! 5/4/1972 Show captured here in all of it's Sonic-Glory ! -- and, in a 4-CD format !!! From here, it was on to the Bickershaw Festival ( Wigan, England ), then to Amsterdam, to Rotterdam, to France, to Luxembourg, to Munich, and back to London again ! for a final 4-night stand at the Lyceum ! Europe '72 !!! And, though you may have indeed ( very-likely ! ) heard pieces & parts of this Grateful Dead 2-Show stand at the Olympia Theatre ... here indeed is the Entire ! 2nd Night Show !! - 5/4/1972 !!! Which, is important for many-many reasons, considering the ' caliber ' of live-music the Grateful Dead were delivering in mid-stretch of this Europe '72 Tour ! But, what is really cool about these ' Olympia ' Shows is - not only that they were at ! the Olympia ( considering it's rich & Historical Tradition of Rock & Roll ... featuring the likes of Led Zeppelin - Black Sabbath - and so-so more ! ) -- But ! as far as these Dead Shows go ... the China > Rider from the 5/3/72 Show was selected for the Original ! 1972 " Europe '72 " Album release ... and -- the Sugar Magnolia ! was selected & included on the Europe '72 Album from this Show here ... Night 2 on 5/4/1972 !!! So, you can get my point here ... these Shows in France were so-incredibly Hot! that there were " Key " selections selected & used on the Original " Europe '72 " Album !!! And, it should be noted that on the Europe '72 Album -- the 5/4/72 Sugar Mag live-track, is obviously ' just ' Sugar Magnolia. But, here on this " Complete Recording " -- you can hear just exactly what led up to this amazing & classic ! version of Sugar Magnolia ... >>> Dark Star > Drums > Dark Star > Sugar Magnolia !!! Then followed by a Beautiful ! version of Sing Me Back Home !! This was a long Show ( 4-CD's ! ), and - it was-indeed a Huge ! Grateful Dead Show !!! The Deal, Playing In The Band, and He's Gone versions are just Stellar! The Big Railroad Blues & Jack Straw versions are exceptionally spunky! Casey Jones & Good Lovin' are delivered back-to-back ... and Big Boss Man is directly followed by Uncle John's Band !!! And, we all know what an Uncle John's Band means, right ? Usually a darn good G.D. Show !!! Plus, the way they close this 5/4/72 night in France too, is just Smokin' !! >>> After Uncle John's ... it's Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad ! > Not Fade Away ! > into One More Saturday Night !!!!! Simply a rip-roaring Grateful Dead Europe '72 Classic ! - in the fine form of 5/4/72 ... in Paris, France !!! Wow ... at least to my ears -- one of the Best ! from this Legendary Europe '72 Grateful Dead Tour ! ... Enjoy !!!
