Description: Original Chromolithograph from the 1886 book titled DE VOGELWERELD. WRITTEN BY A. NUYENS WITH CHROMOLITHOGRAPHS BY JEAN BUNGARTZ. Though the original painting was done in 1883, the lithograph was published in 1886. THE FOUR BIRDS PICTURED HERE ARE NOT CORRECTLY IDENTIFIED IN THE BOOK. There are two different descriptions for number 49 and none for 46 or 48. 46- Not identified, though several birds are discussed with no illustration described. My personal opinion is that it is GERMAIN'S PEACOCK-PHEASANT, given a nearly two page description in book. (I could certainly be wrong).47- THE ORDINARY OR PIED PEACOCK 48- One of two identified as "Bird 49"but likely THE TAME TURKEY (Domestic Turkey) 49- One of two identified as "Bird 49" but most definitely THE GUINEA FOWL Jean Bungartz was a German animal painter, author and book illustrator. PAPER MEASURES APPROXIMATELY 10.75" X 14.5". Print was removed by removing binding from book. Paper has age related toning and light discoloration on the margins, with minor spotting on the bottom margin and minor edge imperfections to the paper. The pages that identify the four birds shown will be included, and allow you to do your own translating, especially for number 46 The English translation for the book was titled: THE BIRD WORLD: Handbook for Room and Park Bird Enthusiasts by A. Nuyens, Editor of "Our Feathered Friends" This is plate 12 from the second volume. Published by J.B Wolters in Groningen (Grunn) in the Netherlands. I can supply a photo of the title page for your records but I only have one title page and several prints to sell so I cannot send the original. Please ask for a photo if you would like one.
