Hamilton 4992B WW2 GCT 16s 24hr Dial Master Navigation Watch

Description: A very nice WW2 nav watch, the Hamilton 4992B was a very nice instrument. A variation of their new 992b platform, made to military specifications for the war effort, these 24h watches were of very high quality and highly accurate and valued for their ease of repair, resulting in faster turn-around times when servicing. Today they are a valuable collector’s item, and while many of them do still work, a lot of them have begun to show their age and need to be restored. This one has been cleaned of its black goopy old lube, and oiled using modern synthetic lubricants, and its kinked mainspring has been replaced. Unfortunately, the screw that holds the balance spring stud has been broken by someone prior, so I had to do some careful work to clean and oil the upper balance jewels since the balance could not be removed. Otherwise, it is in fantastic shape and it is keeping excellent time, and minimal scratches on the damaskeening, and any faded lettering has been re-blacked. Winding and time setting works smoothly again, and the hacking seconds works as it should. Hands are their original hand painted white, which I have not messed with or touched up. The original metal dial has a few small nicks, but is intact and has not been ‘touched up’ either. The case is in generally great shape, as is the crystal. Overall this is a great example of this watch and I hope it will find a good home where someone can enjoy for years to come.
